my MISSION
CELEBRATING BRITISH WOOL AND THE FARMERS WHO PRODUCE IT

why WOOL?
Wool is the UK’s most abundant natural textile fibre, with over 20 million sheep grazing our landscapes. It’s 100% natural, renewable, biodegradable, and recyclable, yet its true value is often overlooked. Sadly, much of the UK’s wool is underutilised, wasted, or even burned. My mission is to change this by championing British wool and supporting the farmers who produce it.

MEET THE FARMS AND THE SHEEP WHO PROVIDE MY WOOL...
RICHARD'S farm
Nestled in the scenic countryside of Bere Alston, Devon, Richard’s Farm is home to a flock of 60 Dartmoor Greyface sheep. This rare breed of sheep represent the rich agricultural heritage of the Dartmoor region.

Richard's farm is where my journey with wool began. In the summer of 2024, Richard invited me to join him during the sheep shearing process, an experience that opened my eyes to the huge amounts of hard work behind every fleece. Richard kindly gifted me a few fleeces, marking the beginning of my dedication to sourcing high-quality, local wool.

CHALLACOMBE farm
Located in the heart of Dartmoor National Park, Challacombe Farm is run by Mark and Naomi Owen, who are passionate about conservation and farming. The farm emphasises sustainable and regenerative farming practices and has various breeds of sheep which are organically reared (certified by A Greener World). Additionally, Challacombe Farm has received regenerative certification, highlighting their commitment to environmental care.

I visited Challacombe Farm in December 2024 to source Naomi's Shetland x Icelandic fleece which is as soft as Merino wool!
sourcing WOOL from my LOCAL COMMUNITY
In summer 2024, I attended a speed shear event hosted in Meavy Village, Devon. This speed shear competition brought together locals to showcase the impressive speed and precision of sheep shearing and celebrate our rural traditions and the importance of wool in our local region.

At the event, I had the chance to select some of the fleeces sheared on the day. These fleeces have a short staple length which is ideal for creating the intricate details of my needle-felted pieces.
This community event is a true testament to the power of connection and the joy of sharing the craft of wool and celebrating the farming heritage of my local region.
